On June 11, 2022 Copley Community Orchard launched their Every Child Matters Garden to honour the children who never came home, with an opening by Leona Brown of Gitxsan and Nisga’a Nations, and Elder Valerie Nicholson of Mi’kmaq, Haida, and Roma descent.
The garden is in the shape of a heart with half of the heart dedicated to orange flowers and the other half holds Indigenous medicinal plants. Organizers and attendees also wrote heartfelt messages on orange-painted rocks, which were laid in the garden.
The garden and Copley Community Orchard are located at 3554 Copley Street, Vancouver, B.C. (between Copley, Walker and Vanness Street; near Nanaimo Skytrain Station; and across from Naomi’s Place).
